This article deals with the history of Trade Union Movement, its growth, features, etc. Trade unions are organizations of workers formed to protect the rights and interests of workers through collective action. In India, the first quarter of the 20th century gave the birth of the trade union movement. 1. Brief history on trade union. The history of the trade union can be seen to have begun in the Industrial Revolution, where the rise of factories and the deskilling of labour led to workers seeking security through collective bargaining agreements. THE FIRST PERIOD 1875-1918 The first period of trade unions in India started from 1875 and lasted up to first world war. During the period the trade union movement was essentially humanitarian.
